I have been tagged by Linds at The Daily Knack to Think Differently about something today. She said that she stressed about this all day and I didn't want to do the same, so I decided the first thing that I thought of this morning would be the thing I would think differently about. Well, I promised Lolo last night that if she cleaned up her WHOLE room then she could open up her Valentine's Day cards to see what they all looked like. We cleaned the whole room and forgot to open the cards. She did not forget, she came running down with the box in hand this morning...MooooooooM You Promised!!! So we opened the box. It isn't Valentine's Cards that I need to think differently about, I actually think they are kinda cute and the kids really get a kick out of exchanging them. What I have decided to think differently about it is....Barbie's. I was never a huge fan of these unrealistic body shaped dolls, I thought they were too frilly, the shoes were too small, the boobs too big, makeup too perfect- totally unrealistic! When we were in the store picking out these Valentine's Day cards, I tried my best to "guide" my daughter to another choice. She was very insistent and I finally gave in. Today I am going to look at Barbie in a new light...the girls enjoy playing with them, they get along nicely, share, trade, converse, role play, pretend and in the end, so what if Barbie has big boobs, the kids are having fun and that's what is important. Besides, they are cheap and in the end I still don't have to put up with the other dolls that I despise......

i think you have a good perspective on the whole thing. i am with you about bratz but barbies, we had them and we turned out okay, i think?!?!? have a great week. btw, maybe i could try the valentines thing with my guys to get them to clean the playroom!
I agree too... we held out a while before going Barbie crazy. But now, my Lola sits for hours pretending and playing. I like them too. BRATZ... we aren't going there.
:)
We love barbies at our house! We have a huge barbie bin! They are nice & inexpensive & the girls LOVE them.
I am so with you on the BRATS dolls. They are not allowed at my house. I never thought I would be that kind of mom, but I seriously HATE those dolls! We call them HoochieMama dolls! (probably shouldn't have taught my girls that word, ha ha)
Thanks for all your cute comments on my blog! I'm so jealous that you got to live in Hawaii! What part? How did you get any work done? I think I would always feel like I was on vacation there! I love it so much, as I sit here in our foot of snow, I'm wishing I was on the beach again! *sigh* I heart Hawaii!
The slutty Bratz make trailer-trash Barbie look downright decent, don't they? That's my take on it, anyway!
Thanks for stopping by my blog - your family sounds so cute (4 girls! In a row!). Just don't read any posts about my teenage daughter, or you may want to quit while you're ahead.
Cute picture and cute cards - she's a little sweetie! Have a good day. Kellan
My brother and his wife refuse to let their girls play with Barbie. I didn't care so much. I refuse, however, to let anything BRATZ enter my home.
Gracie has WAY too many Barbies but I think you're right. Much better than the icky hooker dolls.
Thanks for the tag. It sounds like a fun one. :)
I'm with you on Barbie. Even my sweet Lulu who is only 18 months loves the "Baabie". We don't do Bratz either. I've told Goosey again and again that they aren't classy dolls. A friend of mines daughter received one as a birthday gift & she made her give it away to Goodwill!
Enjoy the rest of your day :)
It's all in the perspective, isn't it?! Good post - and thanks for the tag!

Good think different!! I was so nervous when I saw the valentines that you ddin't like THEM. I love the kid valentines... sometimes I still get them and mail them to family. Haha.. You should change your minda bout Barbie. I love her..
I always loved Barbies when I was little. They were exactly what I wanted to look like. I think that's why kids love them. Of course, I never grew up to look like them. I agree about the Bratz. We have some around the house, but I hate how they look.
A-men TO THAT! I'm with Cecily on this, those Bratz are marketed hooker dolls! Good choice.
I am with you on hating the Bratz. Unfortunatley Hannah loves them. I refused to buy anything Brat related but now that she is having birthday parties with school kids the Bratz stuff is invading our house. It was very embarrassing at her 6th birthday party she opened up what was her first Bratz doll ever and she yelled "oh thank you, thank you my mom wont ever buy me Bratz, because she doesn't like them". I felt a tad bit sheepish standing right beside the mom but in a small way I hope she felt a bit sheepish too for buying a 6 year old a baby bratz with thong underware and a bottle around her neck on a chain. Argh.
I like your thinking on the barbies though. They do provide for long imaginitative play.
I kind of figured that was the area you lived in, but I wasn't sure if there was another base thru there. We went to Oahu, Waikiki a few years ago. We went over to Pearl Harbor for one day. My husband didn't get to go, so this time we were hoping to take the Ferry over so my husband could see it.
Wow, that would be so tuff, with two tiny ones & chasing the roaches! ouch! I've also heard it's WAY expensive to live there!
I do love the way the air smells there!
Hey thanks for the tag!
I'm working on it :)
My daughter does not own anything Bratz either. There is something about their removable feet (among other things) that freaks me out!
Kimmy
Wow- I didn't even know they had removable feet- creepy! Glad to know I am not the only mom who doesn't like these dolls in the house. Molly received one for a bday gift, it disappeared into the Goodwill pile- she's never asked about it again- Lucky me- I don't always get away with it that easy.
Ha! The whole time I was reading your post, I was thinking, well--barbies aren't anywhere near as bad as Bratz. Why not just hire Britney Spears to teach our children about morals?! I am not ready for the barnie phase. The only thing we have right now is barbie toothpaste--but I am sure if there had been a better selection--like Princess or CareBears or Strawberry Shortcake, She would have picked one of those. I am pretty sure it was just the pink she HAD TO HAVE! Good post though!
I hate those Bratz dolls. Barbie is so much better!
Hmmmm.....now I have to think of something....yikes!
I know what you mean about the barbies, being unrealistic physically, etc. But, as a little girl I just adored my barbies, and I really didn't think too much about the boobs and such. It was more the role playing and styling their hair, etc. that got me hooked. You'd think after all this time they could design them a little differently, wouldn't you? I don't like those bratz dolls, either, not a great role model for little girls, in my opinion.
Thanks for tagging me, I'll get right on it! :)
Lizzy
oh my, we do think alike! I have been dreading the whole Barbie thing, and my Analese is such a girly girl that it is only a matter of time before she discovers they exist.....
Love reading your blog!
