The battery is recharged and I finally got around to taking some pictures. I have no idea why the previous owners put a drywall screw in the walls and ceilings about every 2 feet in every direction, but it has made patching holes a lot of fun...can you feel the sarcasm? Ugh. I have taped over them and put one coat over the tape. Today I will do the second coat, and then let that dry and get out a big sponge to smooth it all out. I have a lot to do before tomorrow. My mom is coming to help with the painting, we are going to paint all day and then have a LOST party at night~ oh and breakfast, get kids to school, lunches, dance class, dinner...
~ ya know life happens!
Does anyone know what to use to get paint off the floor? Again, I have no clue what the previous owners did?!!! Hello~ is it that hard to put down a drop cloth if you are going to paint like a preschooler? For crying out loud...who does this?
It will be a few days, but hopefully I will be able to start moving things back into the room by the beginning of next week. I only tell you this to keep me honest and motivated.
Wish me luck!

Goof Off says on the label that it will take off dry paint. I've never tried it though.
I bet you can just get a scraper - like a widget - and get it up.
sounds like you and mom are going to be QUITE busy!! I've been painting too :) working on the living room and hallway, decided to paint it a butter yellow, it's more cheery and really brightens up the room (much better than the tan/brown spongepaint!!) I had a lot of holes to fill as well, and a bunch of sanding, it was like there was stuff in her paint when she painted so the walls had rough spots..it's looking pretty good, this is my first paint job, so far I've only hit the ceiling three times! and I'm just over halfway done with the first coat...woo hoo! Hope your painting goes well!

Good luck! Sounds like a fun project, but tiring at the same time! :)
The room looks great! Wow!
Sorry I can't help with the wood floors. If you find out what works, let me know!
Wish I had some paint tips for you...
...but I can be your cheerleader. Good luck! Can't wait to see the AFTER picture.
I have no idea how to get paint off the floors. You may have to sand them down and restain them. Can't wait to see the end results!!!

Hi, Girlymom!
Looks like you're making progress! (slowly but surely, huh?) Yikes! I think the previous owners were painting with their eyes closed? I would call a flooring person to ask what you can use to get that off, because you don't want to strip it, you know? I usually use turpentine, but I'm not sure on hardwood. Good luck and enjoy your "Lost" party!

Whoa, Girlymom, you've got your work cut out for you--but, not only CAN you do it, you WILL do it!
I can't believe someone wouldn't clean up the paint off those beautiful wood floors--DUH! My friend's husband is a professional painter/paperhanger. If you don't get any other advice on how to clean that up, I can check with him on what you should use. Have a good day, and don't forget to breathe :)!
♥ We have a ton of dry wall nails coming through too. I can't imagine anyone dripping pain all over hard wood floor's CRAZY!
hey there,
you are so good to be tackeling this project. sounds like you will have fun with your mom. i would try mineral spirits but just dappen with it and lightly rub, as to not take off the finish.
as for just jamies comments to be your cheerleader. doesn't everyone know that would be me?!?! lol
hope you have a great day! can ya come paint here when you're done and i'll wathch your kids? ha ha
holy cow! Who would do that to beautiful wood floors!??!
I don't know which products will strip the finish off your wood and which won't. You could always strip the floors, buff and refinish them...
I can't wait to see the end result!
Good luck! I don't have any advice about the floors. I can't believe someone would do that!
I'm stunned that someone would do that to beautiful hardwood floors!
What color are you going to be painting it?
If you REALLY want to get rid of that paint and keep those wood floors looking nice, you are going to have to scrape the paint off, and then sand and finish the floors again.
Unfortunately I could show you MATCHING floors to yours as we moved into a similar home where the previous owners took minimal care of the beautiful hardwood floor.
Options for paint removal are limited because whatever takes the paint off the floor is also going to take the stain/coating off the floor.
I've found that I can use my nail in a few places to scrape away the paint but who really wants to do that ALL over their floor???
Best thing to do is to rent a sander and refinish the floors. (A huge/messy job- best for spring or fall)
As for the tasks ahead of you... we (and I use that term in regards to my FIL, contractor and myself) just finished my kitchen remodel and it was not a fun stretch of 2 weeks. But it is over and it is beautiful. I'm just getting organized with pictures so I can post them on my blog.
Good Luck GM. Thinking of you-
Good luck with the painting. I wish I had some advice for you to get the paint off of the floor but I am no Martha Stewart ;-) I cant wait to see the finished product. I am hoping to start painting in the next few weeks.
I have bad memories of remodeling. Bad, Bad memories! It was very traumatizing to me!
And I am so bad at painting.....I have nooooo patience!
Good luck!!! Hope it all works out well for you! I wan't to do something like that, but I have no motivation right now! Maybe when spring comes...if it ever does!
Wow, have you been busy!!! Looks like you are making awesome progress.
OK, we were in a similar situation. Outside of using a plastic scraper (old credit card will do) to scrape up some of the paint, we used rubbing alcohol (just be sure you test it since it depends on the floor coatings and type of paint), and Goof-off.
Good luck!!!
Can't wait to see the "after" shots!!!
Good luck with all that. I'm sure it will be beautiful.
Wow you are super mom !
Have fun with the painting.
Sounds like a lot of work.
Good luck with the painting look forward to the 'after' photos
xx
So I am new to your blog, but is this a new home you are fixing up? We live in a project home also, lol. As for the paint on the floors I have to get some off also and I will get back to you when I figure out what works!
I LOVE your house. It is so cute! I wanna hear more about this LOST party. I love that show, but it is confusing the crap outta me! :)
